70 Years Ago | Albert & Mae Ewert

70 years ago today, December, 27th 1942 Nancy Mae Baker met Albert J. Ewert at Friends church in Colorado Springs on a cold winter night.

My Grandmother was the greeter that night and they had guest singers from the nearby military camp, one being my Grandfather. After the program my Grandmother commented on my his beautiful tenor solo and well…he didn’t end up moving on to the other greeters. He walked her home while discussing mutual acquaintances and they went on to have a nine month relationship mostly through letter writing.

This Christmas marked the second year that Grandpa wasn’t with us so my grandmother pulled out her photo of him that she carries with her and spoke about the many memories they had. She reminded me to be in the moment with Adam and to really soak in and enjoy our time together.

My Grandfather wrote in his journal “She was an excellent greeter, an attractive and beautiful girl. Somehow we hit it off right away.” 68 years later they still wanted more time together!

A true love story. I cling to their story and other’s like it and will always be encouraged by their love.

Grandpa & Grandma

Success in 2013.

As we go into 2013 I am going into the year with goals of more success. But what does success mean? I have finally come to realize that success looks different to everyone. So I sat and wrote down what success means to me and will work towards those steps next year.

Success to me is working hard, but not losing myself.

Success is attention to detail, having organized systems, and loving my products.

Success is knowing my craft.

Success to me is listening to God for guidance.

Success to me is to be responsible for my family without blaming others.

There are more…what does success mean to you?

Goodbye 2012

Big Sur | Dana & Apollo

We spent some of our shoot driving through the scenic highway 1 on the way to Big Sur and stopped at our destination on a grassy area on the hillside after passing ocean views peeking through the rolling hills and tall tree forests. We talked, laughed, and even stopped for snack time.

I love love love them and enjoyed documenting a beautiful bond between Mom and her growing son.

A Glimpse Into the Past

December has become a reflective month for me. I pulled out old journals recently from college and my first years of marriage. It is amazing to go back and see a little glimpse of the person I was and to see how far I have come.

This year is filled with exciting plans that I cannot wait to share with you all! I am headed towards a path I am very excited about. I encourage you to reflect on this past year and to look forward to the goals you set for next year.

Story Ornaments

When I was young, every year my brother and I would get an ornament that represented whatever experiences or activities we had going on in our lives at the time. For example, when I was 10 I got an ornament that was a pair of ice-skates because I was a part of The Silver Stars, a competing synchronized ice-skating team, while my brother got a baseball bat and ball ornament.

Now when I go home to my parents house for Christmas I see all the mixtures of ornaments we have accumulated throughout the years, it makes me reflect back on the different opportunities that we had and how they all contribute to the people we are today.

Now Adam and I have a family tree of our own and we have started to add ornaments that represent our lives from year to year. Here’s a little glimpse into our tree…

We were engaged on an ice-skating rink in Walnut Creek CA and…look at that a camera. If only my camera had a sparkly lens and flash…

My Mom gave me this glass angle and it reminds me of the generous angel that she is…Adam’s first trip overseas landed him at the city of love-Paris.

When I was in college I worked as a temp on Wilshire Blvd. at Virgin Entertainment Group as a Marketing Manager and later held a part-time position in accounting. One year they gave us employees these ornaments.

This past year I came together with a few friends to start a dinner club so we could become better chefs. One of the girls made this ornament last year that has our logo (yes our CEO of the club made us a logo and everything) and she cut up recipe lines that we used and put them in the ornament. She’s quite crafty I tell ya…christmas_7

Disneyland is a very special place to me. My family liked going to the same two vacation spots every year. We went to Disneyland or a beach house in Pismo Beach. My parents now express that they should have branched out, but these two places have become very special because of the many memories made there throughout the years.
This year is the first year I have my Christmas presents done in advance…this year is the most organized I’ve been and I could definitely get used to this. Now I can sit back, reflect, and remember all of life’s experiences, appreciate each one, and look forward to more adventures to come.christmas_31
